Success stories & good news / Derbyshire Police Information
« Last post by JasonL on Yesterday at 06:55:59 PM »
Hi everyone

Had a phone call from Glossop police today, they have found a number of Defenders in Chesterfield. The information is a bit limited at the moment and is 'fresh of the press'. Will update when I get more information on my Defender tomorrow.

Fingers crossed that not too much damage done and that a few more defender owners get some good news from Derbyshire police😊

Yorkshire and Humber / Stolen + Attempted - Warning - North Yorkshire Police

WARNING - North Yorkshire Police
Posted to the LandyWatch FaceBook Group by North Yorkshire Police...
05th March 2015

There are two reports for the DataBase @PartyMonkey... 8)

Vigilance urged as thieves target Land Rovers
Police are urging owners of Land Rover Defenders to be on their guard against vehicle thieves, particularly in rural areas.

The warning comes after a number of thefts and attempted thefts involving the vehicles in North Yorkshire.

· An attempted theft of a Land Rover was reported in Gargrave, overnight 26 / 27 February. The vehicle was found down the street, having been stopped by an immobiliser.

· A twin cab green Land Rover, registration number YC62 WTG, was stolen from Ickornshaw, near Cowling, in the early hours of 23 February. Anyone with information on its whereabouts should call 101 and ask for PC James Dykes, quoting reference number 12150029982.

· There have also been attempted thefts just over the border in other police force areas.

Police are appealing to owners to be vigilant around keeping these types of vehicles as safe and secure as possible, and are also asking members of the public to report any suspicious activity involving Land Rovers.

PC Clare Mayes, of Thirsk and Easingwold Police, said: "I am urging Land Rover owners to be on their guard, and ensure they have adequate security measures in place - and of course this advice applies to any make of vehicle.

"Land Rovers should always be locked and alarmed. Park in a locked garage or other locked secure area, or in a well-lit open space or where there is passive lighting. Don't leave keys in the ignition or near the front door at home.

"Consider also fitting a transponder-based security marking system and tracker device, and etching all windows with your vehicle identification number. In addition, if your Land Rover is over ten years old, fit an alarm and either fit an immobiliser or use a steering wheel lock."

Thank you for sharing my post.

I cannot remember the brand of pedal lock but it not one of the main ones,  although it was well made, covered all the pedals  and had a reasonable square padlock as part of the mechanism. It cost about £80. Well it stopped it been driven away.

Very sorry to hear about this theft Robster...  >:(

Welcome to LandyWatch, shame about the circumstances...

Sorry to ask the obvious, but is the date range when it could have been stolen between, only the time sort of belies that?

What make of Pedal Lock did you have fitted?

Already shared your post to the LandyWatch FaceBook Group, Twitter and Defender2.net and other places!

Good luck with recovering your truck...

LandyWatch data & statistics / Re: 2015 monthly stats - Feb data now analyses
« Last post by Party Monkey on March 03, 2015, 02:04:38 PM »
Feb'15 stats now done.

Attached is pdf summary but key data points for Feb'15 :- (Jan’15 figures in brackets for comparison)

- 27 (46) reported 'incidents' of which 24 (40) were reported thefts - West Mids & Yorks & Humber being most 'active' (same as Jan’15).    These figures include 2 incidents from Jan’15 which were recorded after the Jan cut off date.

- Of the thefts, 1 (8 ) reported recoveries at a rate of 4% (20%)

- Defenders counting for just over 80% (almost 90%) of the reported thefts.

Interesting to note at the beginning of Feb there was a small run (3 incidents) of Discovery 3/4 thefts.  One reported as taken WITHOUT the keys but it’s not clear how the other two were stolen.

- Defender wheel base ratios 4:1  90 : 110 (3:1) with 130 not reported in Feb (hardly registering in Jan)

- 11% (25%) of entries didn't have a vehicle age but the up to 5 and 21-25 (6-10) age groups were most reported.

- Security info... Over 40% (60%) have no info provided from Facebook or the Forum – Good to see we’re getting a greater proportion of security info in       Feb.   Let’s hope this continues.

- Where we got info... 19% (15%) relying on factory security only, 11% (5%) reported no security at all, 7% (2%) had factory security+another layer.

Balance employed various security which is detailed in the summary. Interesting points to note…

-Defenders parked behind locked gates appears to offer no protection at all

-A Disklok once again helped prevent a theft (maybe down to the quality of the ‘thief’)

-The limitations of the VHF element of the ‘Tracker’ brand of tracker could possibly be highlighted in the case of one theft (Police unable to get signal from the tracker)

Map has been updated with Feb data too as a different colour overlay to Jan'15.    You can toggle on/off the different months on the menu icon in the top left of the map.
